Men's Tennis Goes 2-1 over Weekend in Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Competing in its final three contests of the regular season, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team finished 2-1 in southern Wisconsin this weekend.

Against UW-La Crosse on Friday night at the Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, the Blugolds won 6-3.

They followed with another 6-3 win over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday in Whitewater on the Wangerin Courts but then lost 8-1 later in the day to 28th-ranked UW-Whitewater.

David Stingley (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) went 3-0 at No. 6 singles over the weekend to improve to 18-3 on the season, winning 15 straight since Feb. 22. He picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win Friday over La Crosse and won 6-3, 6-2 Saturday against Oshkosh. He then played a close match against Whitewater but came away with a 7-5, 3-6, 13-11 win.

Joe Meier (Jr.-Hutchinson, Minn.), Florent Marco (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Michael Roden (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) all finished the weekend with a 2-1 singles records as they defeated opponents from La Crosse and Oshkosh.

In doubles competition, Marco and Kyle Hoffmann (Fr.-Franklin, Wis.) went 2-1, beating La Crosse 8-6 and Oshkosh 8-3 in the No. 3 spot. The duo played close against Whitewater, but came up just short 8-6.

Eau Claire is now 16-6 on the season, winning six of its final seven competitions.

The Blugolds will now wait to see if they are selected to the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship. Selections will be announced on NCAA.com on May 6 at 7 p.m. (Eastern).
