Men's Tennis on Spring Break - Blugolds End Trip with Loss to Allegheny

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – While the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team had won six in a row heading into its final day on Spring Break, the Blugolds narrowly fell 5-4 to unbeaten Allegheny College (Pa.) to end their trip to South Carolina.

The Blugolds picked up two doubles wins and two singles wins. The No. 6 singles match was closely contested, going to a super-tiebreaker, but Allegheny came out on top to secure the overall victory.

Michael Roden (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) finished the week unbeaten (4-0) in singles competition as he won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. At No. 5, David Stingley (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) picked up a 7-5, 6-4 victory to also stay unbeaten (5-0) for the week. He has won nine straight matches with his last loss coming on Feb. 16.

In doubles play, Ryan Vande Linde (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Joe Meier (Jr.-Hutchinson, Minn.) recorded an 8-4 win in the No. 1 spot while Roden and Stingley won with the same score at No. 2. Vande Linde and Meier have won four straight doubles matches, going 4-1 on Spring Break, while Roden and Stingley went 4-0 on the trip.

Eau Claire drops to 10-5 on the season. Allegheny improves to 7-0 overall.

The Blugolds will be home next Saturday for the first time this season for contests against the University of Dubuque (Iowa) and Northwestern College (Minn.).  Action gets underway at 9 a.m.

Men's Tennis on Spring Break - Blugolds Extend Win Streak With Win Over NWU

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team squared off against Nebraska Wesleyan University early this morning and continued its strong performance with an 8-1 win over the Prairie Wolves.

For the Blugolds, Ryan Vande Linde (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) easily handled his opponent in the No. 1 single match, winning 6-1, 6-2.  UW-Eau Claire won all of the single matches with the exception of the No. 2 singles match.

UW-Eau Claire thrived when it came time for the doubles competition.  All three of the Blugold duos won their matches, by a combined score of 24-8. 

With the win, the Blugolds picked up their tenth win of the season, moving to 10-4.  In addition, they kept their winning streak alive, winning their sixth consecutive match of the season.

The Blugolds will end their Spring Break Trip in Hilton Head Island with a match against Allegheny College (Penn.) at 8 a.m. (Eastern) tomorrow.

Men's Tennis on Spring Break - Blugolds Stay Hot With Fifth Straight Win

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team has found it easy to adapt to the warm weather of Hilton Head Island this past week.  The Blugolds have been playing just as hot as weather, winning their fifth straight event by a score of 8-1 against Goucher College (Md.) today.

The Blugolds won all of the single events except for the No. 1 singles match.  Their best performance came from Kyle Hoffmann (Fr.-Franklin, Wis.), in the No. 6 single match.  Hoffman managed to completely shut out his opponent, winning the match 6-0, 6-0. 

UW-Eau Claire easily handled Goucher in doubles competition, winning all three matches.  They were led by a strong performance in the No. 1 doubles competition by Ryan Vande Linde (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Joe Meier (Jr.-Hutchinson, Minn.), who had to fight hard for their 8-6 victory.

The Blugolds have been led by a few strong performances on this impressive five game winning streak, namely in singles competition.  Both Hoffman and David Stingley (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) have won all of their matches throughout this streak. 

The Blugolds have outscored their opponents 40-5 in the five events of their streak.

This streak is especially impressive for the Blugolds because all of the wins have come away from home.  The first two wins of the streak, against St. Ambrose University and Loras College, were both won on a trip in Moline, Illinois, and the last three wins for the Blugolds have come on their Spring Break Trip in Hilton Head Island.

UW-Eau Claire will look to continue its streak and pick up its tenth win on the season tomorrow morning when they play Nebraska Wesleyan University at 8 a.m. (Eastern).

Men's Tennis on Spring Break - Blugolds Shut Down Millersville on Second Day

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – On day two of its Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head Island, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team faced off against Millersville University (Pa.).  The Blugolds trounced the Marauders, by a final score of 9-0.

In the singles competition, the Blugolds were led by some of their younger players. Sophomore Michael Roden (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) faced off against Millersville's Kevin Tran and easily won the No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-0.  In addition, Kyle Hoffmann (Fr.-Franklin, Wis.) won his No. 6 singles match by a score of 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles competition, the Blugolds easily handled the Marauders.  They were led by the duo of David Stingley (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and Roden, which won the No. 2 doubles match by a score of 8-1.

After the match, UW-Eau Claire advanced to an 8-4 record, while Millersville fell to 2-4 on the season.

The Blugolds will continue their Spring Break festivities when they face Goucher College (Md.) tomorrow at 1 p.m. (Eastern).

Men's Tennis on Spring Break - Blugolds Edge Kutztown In South Carolina on Day One

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team traveled to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for a Spring Break Trip this week.  They started out the week's festivities with a match against Kutztown University (Pa.), which they won, 5-4.

The Blugolds were helped to victory by the strong performance of David Stingley (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park).  Stingley won the No. 4 singles match in a marathon match against Rich Lichtenwalner.  It took extra work for Stingley to eventually win, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.

Stingley then went on to pair with Brayden Parman (Jr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.), to win the No. 3 doubles match, 8-6.  In addition to this win, the Blugolds also won the No. 2 doubles match behind Florent Marco (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Kyle Hoffmann (Fr.-Franklin, Wis.).  They won this match by a score of 8-4.

In addition to Stingley's match, the Blugolds also won the No. 5 singles match and the No. 6 singles match.  Hoffman won the No. 5 singles match by a score of 5-7, 7-6, 10-4.  In the No. 6 singles match, Zach Katz (So.-Portland, Texas/Edina) won by a score of 6-4, 6-4. 

With the win, the Blugolds bring their record to 7-4, and push their win streak to three.  Kutztown's record is now 2-3.

The Blugolds will stay in Hilton Head and play matches until this Thursday.  Tomorrow, they will look to continue their hot streak against Millersville University (Pa.).
