Men's Tennis Splits in Spring Opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – After competing one weekend last fall, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team was back on the court for two contests today at the Clark Racquet Center at Coe College (Iowa).

The Blugolds dropped the opening match 9-0 to host Coe, but bounced back for a 7-2 victory over Principia College (Ill.).

Against Coe, the Blugolds had a couple close matches but were unable to come away with any wins.

Facing Principia, the Blugolds dropped only the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches.

Michael Roden (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Brayden Parman (Jr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.)  both played to 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

Joe Meier (Jr.-Hutchinson, Minn.) won at No. 3 singles with scores of 6-4 and 6-0.

David Stingley (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) won at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles play, Ryan Vande Linde (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Meier won 8-4 in the No. 1 spot while Roden and Stingley won 8-3 at No. 2. In the No. 3 spot, Florent Marco (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Parman won 8-1.

Next Saturday, the Blugolds will be in St. Cloud, Minn. for two competitions against Michigan Tech and St. Cloud State.
