Men's Tennis Competes at USTA/ITA Regional & Midwest Open Championships

ST. PETER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team competed at the USTA/ITA Regional and Midwest Open Championships this weekend in its lone event of the fall.

In singles competition in the Midwest Open Championships, two Blugolds advanced to the fourth round.

Brayden Parman (Jr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) won three straight matches but narrowly fell in the fourth round. He won with scores of 6-4, 6-1 in the first round, 6-2, 6-0 in the second and 6-1, 6-1 in the third. In the fourth round, he won the first set 6-3, but then fell 7-6, 6-3.

David Stingley (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) advanced to the fourth round after winning the first round 6-2, 6-2, the second round 7-6, 7-6 and the third round 7-6, 4-6, 11-9. He fell 7-6, 6-4 in the fourth round.

Two other Blugolds advanced to the third round in the Midwest Open singles competition.

In doubles play, two pairs made it to the second round of the USTA/ITA Regional Championship.

Ryan Vande Linde (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Joe Meier (Jr.-Hutchinson, Minn.), along with Florent Marco (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Zach Katz (So.-Portland, Texas/Edina) won their first round matches 8-4 and 9-7, respectively.

The Blugolds will kick off the regular portion of their season on February 2 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
