Men's Tennis Weekend Highlighted by 9-0 Victory Over MSOE

ST. PETER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team started its weekend strong with a perfect 9-0 win over the Milwaukee School Of Engineering on Friday but fell short 8-1 to Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) Saturday to finish the weekend 1-1 at the Swanson Tennis Center.

Friday, every Blugold won his match. They were led by Ryan Vande Linde (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), who edged out a 6-1, 6-7, 12-10 win over MSOE's Eric Klamrowski in the No. 1 singles match. 

The Blugolds best performance came from Florent Marco (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), who won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles match. In the four other singles matches, the Blugolds lost a combined five games as they all won in straight sets.

In the doubles competitions, the Blugolds won all three matches with Vande Linde and Joe Meier (Jr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) winning the No. 1 doubles match 8-4.

The second dual of the weekend came against Gustavus.  The Blugolds had a tougher time against the Gusties, losing 8-1.

The sole victory for the Blugolds was in the No. 3 doubles match, where the duo of Marco and Kyle Hoffmann (Fr.-Franklin, Wis.) won their match 8-5.  The duo went undefeated on the weekend as they also won 8-0 Friday.

The win and loss brought the Blugolds record to 3-3 on the season.  Gustavus is now 2-3 and MSOE was 0-1 after facing the Blugolds.

The Blugolds' next challenge will come next Friday when they face St. Norbert College.  The match will begin at 7 p.m. at the Western Racquet Club in Green Bay.
