Women's Hockey Ends Season in NCHA Quarterfinals

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team fell 3-0 to the No. 8 UW-River Falls Falcons in the second game of an NCHA Quarterfinal series to end the season today.

While the Blugolds nearly doubled their shot total from last night, a game they lost 5-0, the Falcons also increased their shot total. Eau Claire finished with 21 shots while River Falls had 43, the second most the Blugolds have given up this season.

River Falls scored two goals in the first period and added another one, short-handed, in the final period.

Morgan Pieper (Sr.-Williams, Minn./Warroad) wrapped up her Blugold career with 40 saves today, playing all 60 minutes in-goal. In her career, she recorded 883 saves, a mark that is third most in program history.

Toni Simones (Sr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) also finished her career at Eau Claire today. She finished tied for fifth in Blugold history with 66 points and was fourth with 41 assists. Simones competed in 104 games for the Blugolds, tying for the most games played in program history.

This was only the fourth time all season the Blugolds were shutout.

The Blugolds finish the season with a 9-14-4 record. River Falls advances to the semifinals of the NCHA playoffs, which will be contested next weekend.
