Women's Hockey Shut Out by Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team was held scoreless for the first time all season with a 1-0 loss to UW-Stevens Point this evening.

The Pointers slipped in a goal with just 43 seconds remaining in the first period to take the early 1-0 advantage.

Despite outshooting Stevens Point 24-14 and having six power play opportunities, the Blugolds couldn't get past the Pointer defense and remained scoreless for the game.

As Blugold goalie, Morgan Pieper (Sr.-Williams, Minn./Warroad) only allowed the initial goal and made 13 saves. She played all but the final 1:13 when Eau Claire switched to empty net in a last-ditch effort to tie the game.

Eau Claire falls to 2-8-1 overall and 2-7-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. The win boosts the Pointers to 6-2-1 and 5-2-0.

The Blugolds will replay Stevens Point tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
