Women's Hockey Ices Finlandia

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team outshot and outscored Finlandia in a 5-0 shutout Friday night at the Hobbs Ice Center.

Sam Knutson (Fr.-North St. Paul, Minn./North St. Paul) got the first goal on the board in the first period for the Blugolds.  Her goal was an unassisted goal at 9:24.

In the second period, the Blugolds went on a scoring run getting three goals in an eight minute span.  Dani Kerr (Jr. – Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) got the first one at 10:32 after she slipped the puck behind the Lion goalie.  Kerr then would go on to help Toni Simones (Sr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) score her first goal of the night at 17:07.  Simones flicked the puck in to the top corner over the goalies glove to score after a back pass from Kerr.  That goal gave the Blugolds a 3-0 advantage over the Lions.  Less than a minute later, Casey McMullen (Jr. – Minneapolis, Minn./South) would get her lone goal of the night at 18:04.  The Blugolds would end the second period with a 4-0 lead.

Simones scored again in the third period getting the fifth and final goal for the Blugolds at 5:10.  

On the night the Blugolds would outshoot the Lions 51-8.  Mara Stormer (Jr. – Waunakee, Wis.) got the win for the Blugolds with five saves on the night.  Ally Derthick (So, - Knoxville, Tenn./New Hampton Prep) also saw time in goal for the Blugolds.  She had three saves in 20 minutes of play. 

The Blugolds look to sweep Finlandia tomorrow afternoon as they finish up there NCHA regular season at home.  Game action gets started at 2 p.m. at the Hobbs Ice Center.
