GREEN BAY, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Powered by a two-goal third period, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team recorded its first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over St. Norbert College (Wis.) this evening.

Though the teams traded goals throughout the game, the Blugolds struck first with a Dani Kerr (Jr.- Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) goal nine minutes into the first.

Toni Simones (Sr.- Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) scored Eau Claire's second goal just 34 seconds into the third, but St. Norbert, which tallied its initial score in the second – made it a tied game midway through the final period.

With under two minutes left in regulation, Abbie Hawthorne (Jr.- Brookfield, Wis./Central), assisted by freshman Andi Husted (Scottsdale, Ariz./Shattuck St. Mary's), drove in the go-ahead goal to take the game 3-2.

The Blugolds prevailed despite being heavily outshot 32-12 by St. Norbert. Morgan Pieper (Sr.-Williams, Minn./Warroad), who tended the Eau Claire net the entire 60 minutes, made 30 saves on the evening.

Eau Claire's first win gives the Blugolds a 1-3-1 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. St. Norbert falls to 1-3, 0-1 on the year.

The Blugolds will battle the St. Norbert again tomorrow afternoon. The rematch will begin at 2 p.m.
