Four earn WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week honors

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) — Four University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student-athletes were named WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 6-12. Yakob Ekoue (Sr. - Hopkins, Minn.), Sophie Rausch (Sr. - Fergus Falls, Minn.), Ty Readman (Sr. - Edmonton, Alberta/Vimy Ridge Academy) and Brock Voigt (Sr. - Sun Prairie, Wis.) were all recognized.

Ekoue won both the shot put and 35-pound weight throw at the UW-Stout Quadrangular on Feb. 10, with throws of 57-9 (17.60m) and 62-11 1/4 (19.18m), respectively. His shot put mark ranks first in the WIAC and second in NCAA Division III, while his weight throw performance ranks first in the WIAC and fifth in NCAA Division III.

Rausch set program records for goals and points in a single season during the week. She netted two goals and an assist in a 5-2 victory over College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Feb. 8, to set records with 28 goals and 42 points. Rausch helped the Blugolds overturn a 2-1 deficit by scoring twice in the second period, including the go-ahead goal just past the midway mark of the period. She added to her records with one goal and one assist in a 5-0 win against Northland College (Wis.) on Feb. 11. Rausch scored the Blugolds' opening goal and assisted their fifth.

Readman tallied four points in a two-game sweep of UW-Stout during the week. He assisted the second goal and scored the fourth in the Blugolds' 4-0 victory in the series opener on Feb. 10. He struck twice in the third period in the series finale on Feb. 11, helping the Blugolds overturn an early deficit for a 4-3 win in overtime. Readman tied the game at 2-2 with a goal early in the third period, and scored another equalizer in the final six minutes of regulation to force overtime. Readman recorded a plus-minus of plus-3 across the two games.

Voigt averaged 24.5 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game as the Blugolds went 2-0 during the week. He started the week with a double-double against UW-Platteville on Feb. 8, tallying 24 points and 10 rebounds. Voigt shot 55.5 percent (10 of 18) from the field and contributed three assists and two blocked shots. He followed with 25 points, six rebounds and three steals against UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 11. Voigt also distributed a pair of assists and shot at a 66.7 percent (12 of 18) clip from the field. Nine of his 16 rebounds during the week were on the offensive glass.
