Voigt, Ruden named WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire basketball players Brock Voigt (Sr. - Sun Prairie, Wis.) and Jessie Ruden (Sr. - Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) were both named WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week on Wednesday. Ruden earned the honor for the third time this season, while Voigt is an honoree for the first time this campaign.

Ruden, a guard, was named the Tournament MVP at the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament hosted by DePauw University (Ind.) on Dec. 29-30. She led the Blugolds to the tournament title, including a 75-68 win over No. 10-ranked Trine University (Ind.) in the opener. Ruden scored 23 points, dished out four assists, blocked three shots and grabbed three rebounds in that victory. In the tournament championship against DePauw, Ruden recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lift the Blugolds to the title. She added three steals and two blocks as the Blugolds won 65-51. For the week, she averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 blocks and 2 steals per contest.

Voigt, a forward, was named to the All-Tournament Team after helping UW-Eau Claire go 2-0 at UW-Oshkosh's BSN Winter Classic on Dec. 29-30. He averaged 16.5 points, six rebounds and two blocks per game. Voigt tallied 19 points, six rebounds and three blocks in a 76-41 victory over Marian University (Wis.) on Dec. 29. He added a 14-point, six-rebound performance against Ohio Wesleyan University on Dec. 30. Voigt achieved both stat lines in just over 23 minutes of action in each game.
