Four Blugolds named WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) — Four student-athletes from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire received WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 16-22. Gymnast Harriet Toth (So. - Regina, Saskatchewan/Martin), field athletes Yakob Ekoue (Sr. - Hopkins, Minn.) and Catie Fobbe (Sr. - Annandale, Minn./Maple Lake) and diver Sarah Dahlk (Sr. - Verona, Wis./Middleton) were all recognized for standout performances.

Toth was named the all-around athlete of the week for gymnastics. She posted the leading score for the Blugolds at the Texas Woman's Quadrangular on Jan. 20. The meet also included Air Force Academy and Centenary College (La.). Toth tallied a career-best 37.700 to finish fourth in the all-around standings. Her top showing came in the uneven bars, where she tied for 14th place. 

Ekoue was the men's field athlete of the week in indoor track and field. He won both the shot put and 35-pound weight throw at the UW-Platteville Triangular on Jan. 21. His throw of 56-11 1/2 (17.36m) in the shot put ranks first in the WIAC and second in NCAA Division III. Ekoue's throw of 59-5 (18.11m) in the 35-pound weight throw ranks first in the WIAC and sixth in NCAA Division III.

Fobbe earned women's field athlete of the week honors in indoor track and field. She won both the shot put and 20-pound weight throw at the UW-Platteville Triangular on Jan. 21. Her throw of 45-7 1/4 (13.90m) in the shot put ranks second in the WIAC and sixth in the NCAA. Her throw of 57-10 1/4 (17.63m) in the 20-pound weight throw ranks second in the WIAC and fifth in NCAA Division III. 

Dahlk was the women's diving athlete of the week. She won the three-meter competition at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Jan. 20. She secured another NCAA zone cut with a score of 419.05 and finished nearly 25 points ahead of the next diver.
