Football, Women's Hockey Earn WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Ryan Kuechle (Jr. - Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) and Sophie Rausch (Sr. - Fergus Falls, Minn.) have earned WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 24-30. Kuechle is the defensive player of the week for football, and Rausch is the women's hockey player of the week.

Kuechle collected a team-high 13 tackles and recovered a fumble in the Blugolds' 48-26 win over UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 29. He tallied three solo tackles and added 10 assisted tackles. His fumble recovery deep in Pointers territory in the third quarter set up a Blugold touchdown on the ensuing drive.

Rausch tallied six points in a two-game series sweep of College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) Oct. 28-29, including the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 4-3 overtime victory on Oct. 29. She netted four goals in the series. In the Blugolds' season-opening 4-1 win, Rausch tallied a pair of goals and added an assist. A day later, she scored with just over three minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime, and won the game with a goal early in the extra period. Rausch also had an assist in the comeback victory.
