Blugolds complete season sweep of Blue Devils

MENOMONIE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team finished off a season sweep of UW-Stout with a 22-2 victory over the Blue Devils on Monday. The Blugolds didn't allow a goal until the final quarter in a dominant performance against their I-94 rivals.

UW-Eau Claire raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first period and led by 13 at halftime. Six different Blugolds found the back of the net in the opening quarter, with Reegan Werner (Fr. - Farmington, Minn.), Alexie Romanelli (So. - Naperville, Ill./Central), Devon Crews (Fr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit), Riley Domagala (Jr. - Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy), Samantha Burns (So. - Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Peyton Gullickson (Fr. - Rosemount, Minn.) all scoring.

Romanelli followed with three more goals in the second quarter as the Blugolds padded their lead. Domagala and Crews scored again too, and Lily Zygowicz (Fr. - Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) added two goals of her own to put UW-Eau Claire in front 13-0 at halftime.

The Blugolds scored five more goals in the third period. Werner scored twice, and Burns, Werner and Domagala all added one more goal to their tallies. UW-Eau Claire led 18-0 at the end of the third.

Burns, Gullickson and Romanelli all scored again in the fourth quarter, and Raegan Valois (Fr. - Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) finished off the scoring.

Romanelli finished with a game-high five goals. Domagala, Werner, Zygowicz and Burns scored three goals apiece. Werner and Gullickson passed two assists each. 

UW-Eau Claire controlled 27 ground balls compared to eight for UW-Stout. The Blugolds out-shot the Blue Devils 46-10. Alexandria Shea (So. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) made eight saves in net.

The Blugolds have their home finale on Wednesday, April 26, against UW-La Crosse. They'll host senior night at Simpson Field, with game time set for 7 p.m.
