Blugolds tie scoring record in win over UW-Stout

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team matched a program record by scoring 26 times in a 26-3 victory over UW-Stout on Wednesday at Simpson Field. In the first-ever meeting between the Blugolds and the Blue Devils, the hosts tied their record for most goals scored in a single game.

Ten different Blugolds found the back of the net, and six players scored multiple goals. Riley Domagala (Jr. - Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson) and Samantha Burns (So. - Mahtomedi, Minn.) led the way with five goals apiece. Reegan Werner (Fr. - Farmington, Minn.) played a key role in setting up the attack, finishing with three assists in addition to three goals. Lily Zygowicz (Fr. - Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) also had three assists and scored twice.

The 23-point margin is the second-best margin of victory in program history.

The Blugolds scored 12 unanswered goals in the first period to pull away early. The red-hot start included a seven-goal flurry in a span of just under four minutes. Domagala and Burns had three goals each in the opening quarter. Alexie Romanelli (So. - Naperville, Ill./Central) and Werner tallied a pair of goals apiece. Zygowicz and Devon Crews (Fr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) added a goal each.

UW-Eau Claire tacked on three more goals in the second quarter, with Raegan Valois (Fr. - Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View), Lydia Wickersham (So. - Janesville, Wis./Milton) and Ella Novak (So. - Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) all scoring. The Blugolds led 15-1 at halftime.

The Blugolds put nine more goals on the scoreboard in the third period. Burns, Domagala and Romanelli all scored twice, and Werner, Zygowicz and Ruby Pozorski (So. - Burnsville, Minn.) also got on the scoresheet. Valois put two more goals in the net in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.

Domagala, Crews, Wickersham, Pozorski, Romanelli and Peyton Gullickson (Fr. - Rosemount, Minn.) all had one assist each. Alexandria Shea (So. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) made four saves in net to earn the victory.

The Blugolds held a 45-9 advantage in shots, led 35-13 in ground balls and won 23 of 31 draw controls.

UW-Eau Claire is on the road for its next contest. The Blugolds visit Wartburg on Friday, April 7, with game time set for 7 p.m.
