RIVER FALLS, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team fell on the road at UW-River Falls on Friday, taking a 12-10 defeat to the Falcons. The two sides were knotted up at halftime before the Falcons got the edge in the second half.
The Blugolds got out to a hot start in the opening period, scoring the first two goals. Reegan Werner (Fr. - Farmington, Minn.) and Devon Crews (Fr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) got UW-Eau Claire on the board for a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes. The Falcons answered with two goals of their own before Alexie Romanelli (So. - Naperville, Ill./Central).
Samantha Burns (So. - Mahtomedi, Minn.), Werner and Crews scored three straight goals to start the second quarter and establish a 6-2 lead for the Blugolds. However, the Falcons came back to tie the game at 7 by halftime. Crews added another goal for UW-Eau Claire midway through the period.
The Blugolds got another goal from Crews in the third period, but the Falcons scored three times to go ahead 10-8 entering the fourth. Ruby Pozorski (So. - Burnsville, Minn.) and Burns got goals in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to make up the deficit.
Crews tallied a game-high four goals to lead the Blugolds. Werner and Burns finished with two apiece. Riley Domagala (Jr. - Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) had two assists. Alexandria Shea (So. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) had 17 saves in net.
The Blugolds return to the field with a road game at UW-Stout on Monday, April 24. Game time is 7 p.m.
