MONMOUTH, Ill. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-0 victory over Monmouth College on Saturday. The Blugolds won by 23 for the second consecutive game and earned a third straight victory.
The 23-goal margin of victory matches the best number in program history. The Blugolds outshot the Fighting Scots 38-1 in the victory.
The Blugolds scored 10 times in the first quarter to assert their dominance early. Alexie Romanelli (So. - Naperville, Ill./Central), Devon Crews (Fr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit), Samantha Burns (So. - Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Peyton Gullickson (Fr. - Rosemount, Minn.) all scored two goals in the opening period. Kylah Krause (Sr. - Belleville, Ill./East) and Riley Domagala (Jr. - Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) also put a goal each on the board for the Blugolds.
UW-Eau Claire tacked on four more goals in the second quarter. Carmen Erickson (So. - Eyota, Minn./Rochester Lourdes), Reegan Werner (Fr. - Farmington, Minn.), Crews and Paige Williams (Fr. - Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) all found the back of the net to put the Blugolds ahead 14-0 at halftime.
Crews and Domagala added unassisted goals in the third quarter. Seven more goals finished off the scoring in the fourth. Burns scored twice more, and Romanelli, Werner, Domagala and Krause all added another goal each. Ruby Pozorski (So. - Burnsville, Minn.) also scored a goal.
Alexandria Shea (So. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) saved the only shot she faced to get the shutout in net. It was her fourth victory of the season.
Werner and Lily Zygowicz (Fr. - Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) had two assists apiece. Domagala, Erickson, Crews and Romanelli also had one assist each.
The Blugolds held a 24-3 edge in draw controls and 19-15 in ground balls.
UW-Eau Claire returns to action with a home game against UW-River Falls on Monday, April 10. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Simpson Field.
