Women's Lacrosse Tallies 26 Goals in Rout Over Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team was back in action on Wednesday for an early evening matchup against the Augsburg University Auggies at Edor Nelson Field. The Blugolds scored early and often to earn their fifth win in a row, 26-1.

Box Score

UWEC entered the game averaging 16.5 goals per game during their opening four game win streak and wasted no time doing what they do best, putting the ball in the back of the net. Riley Domagala (So. – Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) got things started five minutes into the contest with her ninth goal of the season. The Auggies answered just 40 seconds later to tie the game 1-1.

From that point on it was all Eau Claire, all the time. Ruby Pozorski (Fr. – Burnsville, MN) broke the tie and scored the game winning goal just ten seconds after Augsburg evened the score. Domagala, Kylah Krause (Jr. – Belleville, IL), and Alexie Romanelli (Fr. – Naperville, IL) all found the back of the net before the first quarter ended to increase the UWEC lead to 5-1.

In the second quarter, Samantha Burns (Fr. – Mahtomedi, MN) and Becky Goetsch (Fr. – Maple Grove, MN) tallied two goals each to push the lead to 12-1 at halftime. Burns finished the game with three goals and Goestch finished with four to increase her team lead to 22.

The second half was a similar picture to the first as Krause tallied four of her five total goals in the later 30-minutes of play. Alexie Romanelli also had a big second half with four of her six total goals on the evening. Ella Novak (Fr. – Columbia, MD), Maggie Phillippi (Jr. – White Bear Lake, MN), and Hallie Oberg (Sr. – Woodbury, MN) also recorded goals as UWEC extended their win streak to five games with the 26-1 victory.

Alexandria Shea (Fr. – Kenosha, WI) earned the win in goal, recording eight saves to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Eau Claire out-shot Augsburg 45-12 and forced 28 Auggie turnovers.

The Blugolds (5-0) will be back in action Wednesday, March 16 when they host the University of Northwestern-St. Paul at Simpson Field for their home opener. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
