EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team was back at home on Wednesday as they faced Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opponent, UW-River Fall. After falling behind early in the game, the Blugolds outscored the Falcons 26-2 in the final quarter to complete the 62-49 comeback victory.
The UW-River Falls Falcons came out firing in the first with a 16-3 run in the opening seven minutes of the contest. Three-point shooting was dominated by the visitors in the first half as UWRF went 7 for 16 from beyond the arc. UW-Eau Claire didn't fare so well from beyond the arc with only one three pointers in the first half.
With an eight-point deficit at halftime, the Blugolds looked to chip away at the River Falls lead but were outscored 20-17 in the third quarter. UWEC couldn't match the sharpshooting in the beginning but turned the game on its head in the fourth quarter with 21-0 run to begin the frame. Ellie Clayton (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/Farmington) totaled eight of her ten total points in the fourth, adding to the 26 team points in the quarter. Courtney Crouch (Jr. – White Bear Lake, MN) and Jade Ganski (So . – Rothschild, WI/Newman Catholic) both tallied 12 second half points each.
The Blugolds (13-4-0, WIAC 4-2) will be back at Zorn Arena on Saturday, January 22nd when they host UW-Whitewater at 5PM.
