Five Blugolds Selected to All-WIAC Women's Soccer Team

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Five UW-Eau Claire women's soccer players have been named to the 2012 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Team, announced today.

Selected to this year's All-WIAC Team were Paige LeGate (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), Ashley O'Connell (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./East), Kara Ryan (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), Allie Stone (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Verona Area) and Gina Williams (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Verona Area).

LeGate, who was also named to the first team last year, led the Blugolds in assists this season with five, which also ranked seventh best in the WIAC. She also had four goals for a total of 13 points, second most on the team.

O'Connell and Ryan, both defenders, were part of a Blugold defense that gave up a total of 23 goals while Eau Claire scored 29. The Blugold defense also gave up 237 shots while the offense finished with 288.

Stone, who was also named to the first team in 2010, recorded four assists, second most on the team and tied for eighth in the conference. She also scored one goal, totaling six points for the season.

Williams led the Blugolds and tied for first in the WIAC with 31 goals this season, a mark that ranked 10th best in program history for most points in a single season. She also led the Blugolds and WIAC with 14 goals and tied for first in the conference with five game-winners.

Additionally, Katie Richter (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./West) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team, which was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Richter played in 18 games this season and had four goals, tied for second most on the team, and one assist.
