Blugolds Top Eagles in a Marathon Match

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team faced off against the UW-La Crosse Eagles in an intense match that the Blugolds won after two periods of overtime.

The Blugolds put the game away 110th minute. Paige LeGate (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) took a shot that hit the post, and Tara Dennehy (Fr.-Eugene, Ore./Churchill) rebounded the ball and scored to secure a Blugold victory. The goal was scored with just 20 seconds left in the second overtime.  If the Blugolds didn't score the match would have likely ended in a tie.

Dennehy also scored the Blugolds' first goal of the match, which came in the 75th minute to tie the game 1-1.  Dennehy's two goals were her second and third of the season.  From there both teams' defenses took control, with no goals being scored until Dennehy's game-winner.

Nina Behrenbrinker (Jr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) played the entire game in the net for Eau Claire, and she stopped four shots.

This victory was the Blugolds' sixth conference win of the season, bringing their conference record to an impressive 6-2 to take second in the WIAC, with a 9-7-2 overall record for the season.  The Blugolds also move to 3-0-2 in overtime games this year, proving their ability to play under pressure.

The Blugolds will play their next game in the 2012 WIAC Women's Soccer Tournament this Thursday.  They have a first round bye, because they are the No. 2 seed in the conference. Their game Thursday will be played against the highest remaining seed after the first round games, which will be contested Tuesday.  The game will be contested Eau Claire at 2 p.m.
