Soccer Finishes New York Trip Winless

GENEVA, N.Y. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire soccer team wrapped up its two-game trip to New York on Saturday with a 4-0 loss to host team and second-ranked William Smith (N.Y.) in the 2012 Heron Cup at Cozzens Field.

The Blugolds, who also fell 1-0 Friday to 19th-ranked Ithaca College (N.Y.), got down early in Saturday's game as William Smith scored a goal less than five minutes into the contest. The two teams played close the rest of the half and the Blugolds went into halftime down by just one goal.

But in the second half, Eau Claire allowed three quick goals over a seven minute stretch. Starting at 50:04, William Smith found the back of the net and added another goal at 55:03 and another at 57:16.

William Smith narrowly edged the Blugolds in shots with 11 to Eau Claire's 10 but both teams finished with six on-goal. Nina Behrenbrinker (Jr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) took the loss for Eau Claire as she played just over 64 minutes in the net and gave up all four goals while making once save. Amanda Hakala (Sr.-Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) also saw time in-goal and stopped one shot.

Next up, the Blugolds will be at Carleton College (Minn.) for a 4:30 p.m. game Wednesday.
