SUPERIOR, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Playing its first game on the road since early September after seven straight home games, the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team picked up right where it left off at home. The Blugolds scored early and often against UW-Superior, picking up the 5-1 win for their fifth straight victory.
Gina Williams (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Verona Area) continued her scoring binge this season getting the Blugolds a lead just 1:21 into the game, scoring an unassisted goal for the 1-0 lead.
Shortly after that, at 2:50, Williams struck again, this time on a header off of a Kara Ryan (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) free kick. That got the Blugolds rolling early as they continued on the momentum they have built the past four games.
At 10:17, Willams completed the hat trick with her third goal of the game on another assist from Ryan.
But that was as close as the Yellowjackets would get as the two teams played a much quieter second half. The lone goal came at 47:48 and it was Williams again, who scored her fourth goal of the game, and her 13th goal of the season on assists from Ryan and LeGate.
Nina Behrenbrinker (Jr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) started in goal for the Blugolds and did not make a save while giving up one goal. Amanda Hakala (Sr.-Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) played the final 16:56 in goal and did not record a save.
The win improves UW-Eau Claire to 6-4-1 and 4-1-0 in the WIAC. They return home on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup with St. Olaf (Minn.). The game is set for 4 p.m. at Bollinger Field.
