Women's Hockey Gets 100th Win in Program History

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team and head coach Mike Collins reached their 100th win in the history of the program with a 4-3 victory over St. Mary's University (Minn.) at Hobbs Ice Center tonight.

The Blugolds (1-1) jumped out to a lead to hand St. Mary's its first loss of the season. The Cardinals are now 3-1 on the year. Last night Eau Claire fell to St. Mary's 4-1 in Winona.

Casey McMullen (So.-Minneapolis, Minn./South) opened scoring for Eau Claire at 6:20 in the first with an assist from Taylor Jenkins (Jr.-Austin, Minn.). Later in the period, Jenkins picked up a goal of her own on a power-play with assists coming from Jackie McKay (Jr.-Franklin Park, Ill./East Leyden) and Toni Simones (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul). Emily Larson (Fr.-Bemidji, Minn.) scored just over a minute later on an assist from Emily Haluska (So.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) to make the score 3-0 after one period.

In the second period, Kristin Faber (Sr.-Austin, Minn.) added another score for Eau Claire with assists from Simones and Kelli Johnson (Sr.-Farmington, Minn.). The Cardinals got on the board with just over a minute remaining in the second period and added two goals late in the third but they were not enough to overtake Eau Claire.

Eau Claire finished with 47 shots to St. Mary's 23 while the Blugolds have five penalties to the Cardinals' three.

Blugolds' Jordyn Quiring (Fr.-Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) was in-goal the entire night and stopped 20 shots while giving up three goals.

The Blugolds will be back at home next weekend for two more contests against St. Norbert College, which is in its first year of competition. The puck will drop both Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
