Women's Hockey Shuts Down Another Opponent

HANCOCK, Mich. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team picked up its fourth shutout of the season and second in a row with a 5-0 victory over Finlandia University (Mich.) at Houghton County Arena tonight.

The five goals by Eau Claire came from four different players. All five goals were even-strength.

Christine Dickinson (Sr.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) opened with a goal, the eventual game-winner, at 12:51 in the first period. She increased the Blugolds' lead to two goals with another score at 6:20 in the second period.

With three of the Blugolds' five goals coming in the second period, Kristin Faber (Sr.-Austin, Minn.) found the back of the net at 15:20 while Abbie Hawthorne (So.-Brookfield, Wis./Central) scored at 17:46 to give the Blugolds a four-goal advantage.

The Blugolds' final goal came with just over a minute left to play as Emily Haluska (So.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) scored at 18:50 in the third period.

Eau Claire dominated the shot chart, outshooting the Lions 36-6. In the second period alone, the Blugolds finished with 19 shots to Finlandia's one.

Ally Derthick (Fr.-Knoxville, Tenn./New Hampton Prep) recorded the win for the Blugolds as she played 40 minutes in-goal and stopped three shots. Jordyn Quiring (Fr.-Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) played the final 20 minutes at goalie and saved three shots.

Eau Claire improves to 7-5-1 on the season and 4-4-1 in the NCHA. Finlandia drops to 0-11 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

The Blugolds and Lions will face each other again tomorrow in Michigan. The puck is set to drop at 2 p.m. (Eastern).
