Women's Hockey Falls in Overtime at River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team stuck right with sixth-ranked UW-River Falls but a Falcon goal in overtime handed the Blugolds a 3-2 loss at Hunt Arena today.

While the Falcons (8-0, 6-0 NCHA) took the early lead less than five minutes into the game, neither team could score another goal until the third period.

Allison Malecek (So.-Maple Plain, Minn./Delano) answered for Eau Claire (5-4, 3-3 NCHA) at 6:18 in the third period on an assist from Emily Haluska (So.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) but six minutes later River Falls again took the lead.

But the Blugolds scored again to tie the game up at 18:33 in the third on a power-play to send the game into overtime. This time it was Taylor Jenkins (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) with the goal on an assist from Kristin Faber (Sr.-Austin, Minn.).

In the extra session, River Falls scored a goal midway through the period to stay undefeated on season. River Falls finished outshooting the Blugolds 40-28.

Ally Derthick (Fr.-Knoxville, Tenn./New Hampton Prep) spent the entire game in the net for Eau Claire and stopped 37 Falcon shots.

The Blugolds will be back at home next weekend for two games against UW-Superior. The Blugolds will take to the ice both Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
