Women's Hockey Shuts out Marian, Rolls to Fourth Straight Win

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - It was a different night but a very similar result for UW-Eau Claire women's hockey as the team held Marian University (Wis.) scoreless for the second consecutive night en route to a 2-0 victory.

Emily Haluska, with help from Casey McMullen (So.-Minneapolis, Minn./South), got the Blugolds on the board late into the first period. Less than two minutes into the second period, Eau Claire struck again with an even-strength goal from Kristin Faber (Sr.-Austin, Minn.). Taylor Jenkins (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) and Kelli Johnson (Sr.-Farmington, Minn.) assisted on the score that put the Blugolds up 2-0.

Eau Claire didn't get past Marian defenses for the remainder of the game, but the Blugolds also prevented the Sabers from scoring. The Blugolds have never given up a goal to the Marian team and the 2-0 victory marks the 28th shutout win in program history.

The Blugolds dominated the shot totals for the evening, taking 44 compared to Marian's 14. Blugold Mara Stormer (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) played  the final two periods and blocked eight of the Sabers' shots. Jordyn Quiring (Fr.-Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) started the game between the pipes for Eau Claire and made six saves, earning the win.

The win is Eau Claire's fourth consecutive and improves the team's record to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. Marian drops to 0-5 in the conference and 0-7-1 overall.

In two weeks, the Blugolds will host UW-River Falls on Dec. 3 and then travel to play the Falcons in River Falls the following afternoon. The first game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
