Women's Hockey Ends Unbeaten Streak at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team's 10-game unbeaten streak came to an end with a 3-2 loss at Adrian College (Mich.) tonight.

In the Blugolds' first loss since December 12, 2010, Eau Claire got down early after Adrian scored at 7:56 in the first period.

At 8:25 in the second period, Kristin Faber (Sr.-Austin, Minn.) found the back of the net on an assist from Toni Simones (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) to tie the game at 1-1. But two more Adrian goals, one at 11:07 and another at 13:27, made the score 3-1 and the 2-goal deficit proved to be too much for Eau Claire to overcome.

Faber did add another goal for Eau Claire with just over six minutes to go but that was the final score of the night. Simones again assisted on the goal, which was Faber's 19th of the season, tying her own school record for most goals in a season. She also had 19 a season ago.

The Blugolds actually slightly outshot Adrian, 26-24. Mara Stormer (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) played all but 50 seconds between the pipes and stopped 21 Adrian shots.

Eau Claire played a fairly clean game, committing just one penalty while Adrian had four.

The Blugolds are now 12-6-4 on the season and 9-5-3 in the NCHA. Adrian is 13-6-3 overall and 11-3-3 in conference play.

The teams will face each other again Saturday at 2 p.m. (Eastern).
