Women's Hockey Ties St. Scholastica 1-1 in Overtime

DULUTH, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - In the first meeting all-time between the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team and the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.), the teams tied 1-1 in overtime at Mars Lakeview Arena tonight.

The Blugolds opened the game finding the back of the net just 6:10 into the contest to go up 1-0. Dani Kerr (So.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) scored for Eau Claire, assisted by Allison Malecek (So.-Maple Plain, Minn./Delano).

While Eau Claire held the momentum, St. Scholastica tied it up with less than three minutes to play in the second period on a power-play. The goal came after a penalty by Stephanie Hatcher, the Blugolds' third and final penalty of the game.

The third period was played fairly even, with no penalties being committed and the Saints finishing with seven shots to Eau Claire's five. In overtime, St. Scholastica took two shots and the Blugolds had one.

Eau Claire managed to outshoot the Saints 30-21 on the night, the 17th time the Blugolds finished outshooting their opponent this season.

Mara Stormer (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) played all but two seconds between the pipes and stopped 20 St. Scholastica shots. She is now 7-3-5 on the season.

Eau Claire is 12-7-5 on the season and 9-6-4 in conference play. The Saints are now 7-15-2 overall and 5-12-2 in the NCHA.

The Blugolds and Saints will meet again tomorrow to wrap up the regular season. Action will get underway at 3 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena.
