Blugold Men Produce Victors, But Fall Short to St. Cloud State

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against St. Cloud State on Thursday and Friday at the McPhee Center. The Blugolds won several events in both duals, but ultimately fell when the final scores were tallied. The women were bested 135-106, and the men fell 136.5-104.5.

The men were victorious in six events, including a sweep on the diving boards. Quincy Kabe (Jr. - Buffalo, Minn.) won on both the one-meter and three-meter boards. Kabe scored 281.5 on the one-meter board and 301.3 on the three-meter on Thursday to win both.

The Blugold men also did well in freestyle swimming events. Kadin Denner (So. - Aurora, Colo.) placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:02.58. Rafael DaCosta (Jr. - Blair, Wis./Blair-Taylor) was the winner in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:42.71. Ben Keller (Jr. - Cedarburg, Wis.) was the victor in the 200-yard IM after finishing in 1:56.38, and Ian Olson (Jr. - Chippewa Falls, Wis.) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:10.96.

Denner was also the runner-up in the 500 freestyle, and was part of the second-place relay team in the 200 medley relay along with Olson, Keller and Alex Jorgenson (Jr. - Winona, Minn.). Sam Ryf (Sr. - Berlin, Wis.) placed second in the 200 butterfly, Evan Schroeder (So. - Shakopee, Minn.) took second in the 100 freestyle, and Ryan Lahey (So. - Waunakee, Wis.) was the runner-up in the 200 backstroke. The 200 freestyle relay team of Ryf, Schroeder, DaCosta and Jorgenson also took second.

The Blugolds return to action Friday, Dec. 2, at the Rochester Invitational. The meet runs through Sunday, Dec. 4.
