MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Three UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.
Honored this week were women's cross country runner Callie Fischer (Fr.-Oneida, Wis./Ashwaubenon), women's soccer player Caroline Henderson (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) and women's diver Amanda Baker (Jr.-Hudson, Wis.).
Fischer won the first annual UW-Eau Claire "City Wells" 5,000-meter cross country race, covering the course in a PR time of 19:41, 1:16 faster than two months earlier when the Blugolds opened the season with a time trial on the exact same course.
Playing in two matches during the week, Henderson recorded a goal and an assist as the Blugolds tied once and won once. In a 1-0 victory over UW-Platteville on Oct. 25, Henderson scored the game's lone goal with just over 10 minutes to play and the Blugolds hung on for the win. It was her third goal of the season. In a 1-1 double overtime tie at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Oct. 22, she assisted on the Blugolds' goal that came in the 23rd minute. For the week, she finished with five shots, two being on-goal.
Competing against UW-Stevens Point and NCAA Division II St. Cloud State (Minn.) on Oct. 24, Baker won both the one and three-meter dives. She took first in the one-meter with 247.30 points, while winning the three-meter with 259.60.
