PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team earned a tough conference road victory, defeating UW-Platteville 1-0 here today at Pioneer Stadium.
Eau Claire improves to 5-9-2 overall and 3-3 in the WIAC while Platteville falls to 8-9-0 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Blugolds have never lost to Platteville, going 30-0-0 while outscoring the Pioneers 131-6 during that stretch.
The Blugolds where active in the first half, outshooting the Pioneers 12-3 and owning a 6-0 corner kick advantage. Eau Claire fired six of their 12 shots on goal.
The game's lone goal came at 79:46 when forward Caroline Henderson (Jr.-Duluth, MN/East) scored her third goal of the season off a corner kick deflection giving the Blugolds a 1-0 lead. Midfielder Lizzi Hanke (Fr.-Waupaca, WI) tallied her second assist of the season on the goal.
For the game Eau Claire outshot Platteville 23-4 and held a decisive 10-0 advantage on corner kicks. Ten of the Blugolds' 23 shots were on goal.
Goalie Rachel Griffiths (So.-Waunakee, WI) earned her second shutout victory of the season. Her season record now stands at 2-3-1.
The Blugolds return home Wednesday for their final regular season home game when they host rival UW-Stout at Bollinger Field. Game time is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
