WHEATON, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team traveled to Wheaton College where they fell to the Thunder 5-0 here today at Joe Bean Stadium.
The Blugolds are now 2-5-1 on the season while Wheaton, ranked 10th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, improves to 8-1.
Wheaton scored two first half goals at 3:27 and 31:16 to take a 2-0 half time lead. The Thunder came out very aggressive outshooting the Blugolds 20-4 in the first half.
The Thunder continued to roll in the second half as they scored three goals in a two-minute span to put the game out of reach.
Eau Claire was outshot 26-5. Wheaton held an 11-2 advantage for corner kicks. The Thunder were whistled for 10 fouls compared to eight for the Blugolds.
Jackie Nailor (So.-Hoffman Estates, IL) led the Blugolds with two shot attempts. Goalie Sammie Lefaive (Fr.-Coon Rapids, MN) saved eight Wheaton shots on the day. Her record now stands at 2-4-0.
The Blugolds start WIAC play this coming Saturday, September 27 when they travel to UW-La Crosse. Action is set to start at 3 p.m.
