Larsen Lifts Blugolds Past Oles

EAU CLAIRE, WI (Blugolds.com) – Midfielder Megan Larsen (Fr.-Appleton, WI/East) broke a 1-1 tie by lifting a shot over the St. Olaf goalie to give the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team a 2-1 victory here today at the Bollinger Fields.

After a scoreless first half, the Blugolds scored the first goal of the game forward Caroline Henderson (Jr.-Duluth, MN/East) scored 50 seconds into the second half at 45:50 giving Eau Claire a 1-0 lead.  The Oles would tie the game less than three minutes later at 47:14 evening the score at 1-1.

With less than five minutes left in regulation Larsen took a shot from 20 yards out that dropped over the head of Ole goalie Ruth Hesse and just under the cross bar at 85:35 for the game-winning Blugold goal.

Goalie Sammie Lefaive (Fr.-Coon Rapids, MN) earned her first career victory.  Lefaive tallied three saves and now has a 1-1-0 record on the season.

With the win UW-Eau Claire is 1-2-1 for the season while St. Olaf falls to 0-3-0.

The Blugolds will face another MIAC opponent this Saturday, September 13 when they host Gustavus Adolphus College.  Action is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
