Fobbe Crowned National Champion, Ekoue Runner-Up at NCAA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's track & field teams closed out the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships on Saturday with a handful of Blugolds earning top honors. Catie Fobbe (Sr. – Annandale, Minn./Maple Lake) was crowned the National Champion in the women's shot put with a personal best throw of 15.04 meters. Yakob Ekoue (Sr. – Hopkins, Minn.) earned a runner-up spot in the men's shot put with a throw of 17.78 meters.

Results

Along with the two top field athletes, Stefan Klechefski (Jr. – Roberts, Wis./River Falls) also earned All-American honors with an 8th place finish in the 60m dash.

The UW-Eau Claire multis also concluded their competitions on Saturday. Max Foland (So. – Middleton, Wis.) finished 10th with 4756 points. Casey Chadwick (Sr. – Poynette, Wis.) finished 15th with 4518 points.

The men's team finished 24th overall with nine points and the women finished 23rd with ten points.

The Blugolds will turn their attention to the outdoor season with their first meet on Friday, April 7th when they travel to La Crosse, Wis. for the Ashton May Invitational. First events begin at 12PM.
