MENOMINE, Wis (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men and women's track and field teams competed at day one of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships at the campus of UW-Stout. The Blugolds started the weekend strong with three event winners.

Yakob Ekoue (Sr. - Hopkins, Minn.) earned the top spot on the podium of the men's shot put with a throw of 17.32m. On the women's side, Catie Fobbe (Sr. - Annandale, Minn./Maple Lake) completed the Blugold shot put sweep with a winning throw of 14.95m, just edging out the second-place finisher by 2 meters. Senior Carolyn Shult won the women's mile run with an impressive time of 4:59.79s.
Earning an All-Conference Honorable Mention was freshman, Leah Zastrow (Fr. - Spencer, Wis.) who placed third in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.74m. Also placing third was Sophomore Kayla Behnke (So. - Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) with a throw of 13.49m in the women's shot put.
