Tennis Squads Roll Past Eagles

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's tennis teams hosted UW-La Crosse on Sunday. The matches were moved to the John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center due to weather conditions earlier in the week. Both teams swept the doubles competitions on their way to conference wins. The women defeated the Eagles 7-2 and the men earned a 9-0 sweep.

Grant Mauthe (Sr. - Neenah, WI) led the way for the Blugolds with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles with Demetri Bush (So. - Edina, MN/Duluth Marshall). Bush also earned himself an individual victory at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 7-6. Matt Christensen (Jr. - Rochester, MN/Century) and Hunter Roseth (So. - Lakeville, MN/South) picked up two wins of their own on the day; both at No. 3 doubles and then one at No. 3 and No. 2 singles respectively.

With a win at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, Lindsey Henderson (Jr. - Prior Lake, MN) excelled for the Blugolds throughout the day. Along side Elaine Franta (So. - White Bear, MN/Mahtomedi), the pair got back in the win column with an 8-2 edge over Kimberly Steinert (UWL) and Kellie Hierl (UWL). Alexa Brooks (Jr. - Beaver Dam, WI) and Morgan Nelson (Fr. - Beaver Dam, WI) also had two wins each on the day.

The Blugolds will be back in action next week. The men will travel to Bethel University on Wednesday, April 14, and the women will travel to UW-Whitewater on Saturday, April 17.
