EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team hosted UW-Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup on Friday night, defeating the Pointers, 25-17.
Both teams put six points on the board with forfeits at the first two weight classes. At 141, Tyler Demo (So. – Loves Park, IL/Belvidere North) gave the Blugolds the lead with a major decision (11-2) win over Stevens Point's Colin Barker.
Tyler Vanderlois (Fr. – Combined Locks/Kaukauna) followed with a pin over Derek Marten (6:55) at 149 and Chase Schmidt (Jr. – Rice Lake) would tally a 3-2 decision over Jordan Weinzetl at 165 to increase the advantage over the Pointers.
Evan Lawrence's (Jr. – Hugo, MN/Mahtomedi) 8-3 decision over Zack Moon at 174 pounds put another three points on the board for Eau Claire and Grant Balconi's (Sr. – Muskego) 6-5 decision over Austin Stebane at 184 would seal the win.
The victory pushed the Blugolds' dual record to 2-1 on the season. Eau Claire will be back in action Dec. 21 for the Gator Duals in Nashville, Tenn.
