Blugolds fall to Winona State in home opener

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire gymnastics team hosted Winona State University in their home opener on Tuesday night, falling to the Warriors, 177.650-176.350.

Results

Danielle Malecha (So. - Inver Grove Heights, MN/Rosemount) and Tayla Thome (So. – Medina, OH/Buckeye) won events for UW-Eau Claire, with Malecha taking the top spot on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.125 and Thome claiming first place honors on the balance beam with an 8.850.

Newcomer Emma Barry (Fr. – Allen Park, MI) had a strong showing on the vault, taking second place with a 9.200 while Christina Leikam (Fr. – Aurora, CO/Cherokee Trail) took third on beam (8.725). Jordan Ehde (Sr. - Stillwater, MN) led the Blugolds on floor, recording a 9.150 to place fourth.

The Blugolds will be back in McPhee on Saturday afternoon as they host UW-Whitewater at 4 p.m.
