Gymnastics opens season at Alaska-Anchorage

ANCHORAGE (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire gymnastics team opened the 2020 season with a meet with Alaska-Anchorage and Southeast Missouri on Friday night where the Blugolds finished third.

Results

The Blugolds finished the night with a team score of 177.600.

Eau Claire tallied a 43.150 on the floor exercise and were led by Emma Barry's (Fr. – Allen Park, MI) 9th place finish (9.350).

On the balance beam, the Blugolds recorded a 44.800, with Tayla Thome (So. – Medina, OH/Buckeye) and Abby Weber (Fr. – Sartell, MN) scoring a 9.375, tying for seventh.

Eau Claire finished with a team score of 42.950 on the uneven parallel bars. Danielle Malecha (So. - Inver Grove Heights, MN/Rosemount) recorded the highest score with a 9.025, placing 11th overall.

The Blugolds earned their highest scores on the vault with a 46.700. Both Ashley Benes (Jr. – Grand Rapids, MI) and Mallory Walerko (Fr. – Mentone, IN/homeschool) scored a 9.475 which put them in a tie for seventh place.
