Blugold Softball Honored with NFCA Academic Award

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire softball team was recently honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as an All-Academic Team for the 2010-11 school year while nine individuals were named All-American Scholar Athletes.

Last season, the Blugolds achieved a 3.317 grade point average, ranking 50th out of 109 schools that finished with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The following players also received All-American Scholar Athlete status, an honor given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2010-11 academic year.

Over 4,000 student-athletes representing 707 different academic institutions were named as a 2011 NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete, the Association announced recently. This year's total of 4,331 honorees bested last year's total by over 30 student-athletes.  The membership category with the most participating institutions this year was Division III with 168, while high school led the way in total honorees with 1,160.

Forty-four student-athletes from five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools were named to the Scholar Athlete team. Four of the five WIAC schools finished ranked in the top 50 schools.
