Softball Earns Four Spots on NFCA All-Region Teams

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Blugolds.com) - Highlighted by Jess Freagon's (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) first team selection, four members of the UW-Eau Claire softball team received Great Lakes All-Region recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for their efforts in the 2011 season.

Freagon earned a spot on the Great Lakes All-Region team for the first time in her career. She led the team and WIAC conference with 53 RBIs, a Blugold season record. Freagon also tallied the most homeruns (eight) and doubles (13), while tying for the most hits with 59 for the Blugolds. She averaged .404 (59-for-146) on the year and scored 33 runs.

Aleisha Harper (Jr.-Mondovi, Wis./Eau Claire North)Brittany Bergquist (So.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Emily Haluska (So.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) all made the All-Region second team. 

Harper, who also made the All-Region second team in 2009, batted .390 (55-for-141) this season. She also scored 31 runs and had 17 RBIs, while leading the team with 79 assists.

Bergquist racked up 20 RBIs and 10 runs for the Blugolds in 2011. She averaged .259 and started 41 of the 42 games in which she played.

Haluska earned an at-large spot on the second team roster. She ended the season with an average of .406 (52-for-128), the highest of all Blugolds taking regular at-bats. Haluska nailed 27 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

In total, 15 WIAC players were selected to the All-Region team. UW-Whitewater led with three first team selections while Eau Claire received the most overall recognitions with four.
