Underclassmen Carry the Blugolds to First Place Finish

DECORAH, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team got a big boost from some its youngest members at the Luther College JV Cup in Decorah, Iowa today. The team had seven men finishing in the top ten runners, six of whom were either freshmen or sophomores.

Leading the pack was Nick Petersson (Fr.-Brookfield, Wis./Central), taking first place overall and finishing with a time of 26:15.6. He was followed by Tyler Olson (So.-Maple Grove, Minn.) who finished in third place and had a time of 26:19.6. Teammate Erik Rosvold (So.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) followed just seconds later to grab the fourth place spot, with a time of 26:35.5. Matt Cooper (Fr.-Ashwaubenon, Wis.) took fifth place, crossing the line just three seconds later with a time of 26:38.

The Blugolds had one lone upperclassmen finish in the top ten. Jeffrey Quednow (Jr.-Westboro, Wis./Rib Lake) ran a 26:39.2, which nabbed him the sixth place spot overall. Coming in seventh was Christian Leitner (Fr.-Red Wing, Minn), who finished with a time of 26:40.4.

Steven Schimmel (Fr.-Stewartville, Minn./Mayo) rounded out the top ten, finishing in tenth place overall and running a 26:46.7 time.

Next up for the team will be NCAA Regionals, hosted by UW-Oshkosh. Race begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10.
