Blugolds claim 10 titles in final day of WIAC Championship

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire track and field teams claimed 10 titles on the final day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's), with the women finishing second overall and the men in third.

For the men, the 4x400 relay team of Hunter Henk (Jr. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls), KJ Munn (Jr. – Bayport, MN/St. Croix Prep), Arik Skifstad (Fr. – Eau Claire, WI/North) and Brandon Christnovich (Sr. – Holmen, WI) won with a time of 3:13.74, setting a new WIAC best.

Dylan Cooper (Jr. – Holmen, WI) won the decathlon with 7,031 points, breaking his own WIAC record and setting a new facility record. The junior was first in the 110m hurdles (14.68), discus (39.46m, 129-5), javelin (49.77m, 163-3) and shot put (12.29m, 40-4), second in the 100m (11.39), high jump (1.88m, 6-2), and long jump (6.65m, 21-10) and third in the 400m (51.42), pole vault (4.27m, 14-0) and 1,500m (4:47.88).

David Kornack (Sr. – Edgar, WI) won the shot put by nearly 10 feet, tallying a mark of 63-0 (19.20m) and breaking the meet record that was previously held by his throwing coach, Paul Conlin, which he set in 1993.

In the 800m run, Kyler Lueck (Germantown, WI/ WI Lutheran) recorded a winning time of 1:51.62 and also earned another title in the 1,500m with a time of 3:49.48, setting a new facility record.

In addition, Darin Lau (Sr. - Eau Claire, Wis./Immanuel Lutheran) won the 5K, clocking in at 14:31.74.

For the Eau Claire women, Megan Wallace (So.-Burlington, WI) won the heptathlon with 4,848 points, setting a new WIAC best and facility record. The sophomore won the 200m (26.35), 800m (2:29.29), long jump (5.72m, 18-9.25) and shot put (11.16m, 36-7.5) and was second in the 100m hurdles (15.50) and javelin (35.80m, 117-5) and fourth in the high jump (1.52m, 4-11.75).

Tommie Brenner (Sr. – Reedsburg, WI) claimed the top spot in the 100m hurdles, finishing with a time of 14.65 while Erica Oawster (Sr. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) won the shot put with a mark of 46-0 (14.02m).

Morgan Marek (Sr. – Muskego, WI) turned in a winning time in the 1,500m, clocking in a 4:37.08 which sets a new WIAC best.
