Men's Tennis Drops Two Tough Matches

Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com)- The Eau Claire men's tennis team dropped two matches on Saturday at the John and Fay Menard and YMCA Tennis Center. The Blugold men fell 7-2 to undefeated Augustana, and later in the day fell to nationally ranked Carleton 5-4.

In the morning the Blugolds fell behind Augustana in doubles 2-1. Matt Christensen (Rochester, Minn. /Century) and Daniel Schoen (Brookfield, Wis/ Central) earned a point for the Blugolds with a 8-7 win at number two doubles. In singles action it was Ethan Grissom (Franklin, Wis.) who earned a point for the Blugolds with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 victory over Medeiros (AUG) at the number five singles slot. 

In the afternoon the Blugolds played tough against a nationally ranked opponent in Carleton. In doubles action it was Christensen and Schoen again who earned a point for the Blugolds. The pair came from behind to defeat Aaron Goodman/Xander Zuczek (CARL) 8-7. In singles action the Blugolds made things interesting with wins at the number 3,4, and 5 slots. Christensen defeated Goodman (CARL) 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 at number three singles, while Schoen earned another point at number 4 singles. Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil) was victorious at number five singles giving the Blugolds their 4th point of the day. Eau Claire was unable to finish the come back dropping the dual 5-4. 

The Blugolds are now 5-2 overall and will take on Dubuque (IA) and Lawrence University (WI) at the Green Bay Tennis Center on Feb. 23.
