Men's Tennis Picks Up Two More Dominate Wins

Green Bay, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire men's tennis team earned two clean sweeps on Saturday Feb. 23 at the Green Bay Tennis Center. The Blugolds defeated both Lawrence University and the University of Dubuque 9-0, improving to 7-2 on the year.

In their match with Lawrence University the Blugolds did not drop one set en route to a shut-out. In Doubles play, Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis./ Notre Dame) and partner Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) defeated Maloney/Francour (LAW) 8-2. Daniel Schoen (Brookfield, Wis/ Central) and Matt Christensen (Rochester, Minn. /Century) earned a victory defeating the Lawrence No. 2 doubles team 8-3. Ethan Grissom (Franklin, Wis.) paired up with Tom Williams (Burnsville, Minn.) at number three doubles, the pair finished the doubles sweep with a 8-4 victory. In singles action, the Blugods continued their dominance. Janssen earned a 7-6, 6-4 victory at No.1  singles, while Mauthe defeated Delgado (LAW) 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Christensen continued his winning ways at No. 3 singles; Schoen, Grissom, and Adam Burk (Forest Lake, Minn/ Totino Grace) all earning wins at the No. 4, 5, 6 sinlges slots, respectively

The Blugolds faced Dubuque University in the second dual of the day, and had another sucessful start with a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Janssen and Mauthe won their second doubles match of the day at No. 1 doubles with a 8-2 triumph.  Evan Fridinger (Woodbury, Minn.) and Burk took down the Dubuque No. 2 doubles team 8-1, while Matt Gilbert (Minneapolis, Minn./ Washburn) and Kole Kolinski (Kewaunee, Wis./Ashwaubenon) saw action at No. 3 doubles. The duo defeated Norman/Davis (DUB)8-0. Eau Claire did not let up in singles action and completed the second dual sweep of the day. Janssen was dominant at No.1 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Mauthe made quick work of Reddy (DUB) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Schoen won in straight sets at the No.3 slot. Grissom was victorious over Gerber (DUB) 6-1, 6-0, while Burk and Felipe Laporte (Curitiba, Brazil) both earned 6-0, 6-0, wins at No.5 and No.6 singles, respectively. 

The Blugold men will compete at the Hitters Club in Madison, Wis. next weekend. The team will take on Edgewood on March 1st and Wheaton (Ill) on March 2nd.  Follow all the action on Blugold Game Day or on the 'UWEC Blugolds' app
