Men's Tennis Wins Three

Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com)- The UW-Eau Claire's men's tennis squad earned three wins over the weekend including a doubleheader sweep Saturday at the YMCA. The Blugolds' tallied a 9-0 win over St. Olaf on Friday and then a 8-1 triumph over Bethel University and a 7-2 win over Hamline on Saturday.

In their match with St. Olaf the Blugolds did not drop a set en route to a shut-out. In Doubles play, Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis./ Notre Dame) and partner Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) defeated Spencer Wick/Christopher Prokosch (STO) 8-2.  First year players; Chase Roseth (Lakeville, Minn/South) and Matt Christensen (Rochester, Minn. /Century) earned another win at number two doubles, defeating the St. Olaf No. 2 doubles team 8-2. Daniel Schoen (Brookfield, Wis/ Central)  and Evan Fridinger (Woodbury, Minn.)  finished the doubles sweep with a convincing 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. In singles action, the Blugods continued their dominance. Janssen earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No.1  singles, while Roseth defeated Wick (STO) 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Mauther continued his winning ways at No. 3 singles, and Christensen, Schoen, and Ethan Grissom (Franklin, Wis.) all earning wins at the No. 4, 5, 6 sinlges slots, respectively. 

In their 8-1 victory over Bethel, the Blugolds got out to another great start in doubles play. Janssen and Mauthe paired up and earned a win at the number one slot. Schoen and Roseth defeated Knudsen/Kantor (BU) 8-1 at the number two double slot. Fridinger and Gilbert finished the doubles sweep with and 8-7 victory. In singles action Eau Claire won every match but one, and earned the 8 to 1 triumph. 

In the second match on Saturday, the Blugolds defeated Hamline 7-2. Janssen and Mauthe led the way again with a number one doubles win. Schoen and Roseth earned their second doubles win of the day with a 8-0 win at number two doubles. In singles action Eau Claire won five of six singles matches to finsih the day with a 7-2 win. 

The Blugolds are now 5-0 on the season and will host Augustana and Carleton on February 16 at the John and Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center.
