Blugold Women Win Events, Ultimately Fall to St. Cloud State

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against St. Cloud State on Thursday and Friday at the McPhee Center. The Blugolds won several events in both duals, but ultimately fell when the final scores were tallied. The women were bested 135-106, and the men fell 136.5-104.5.

The women won five events at the dual. Sarah Dahlk (Sr. - Verona, Wis./Middleton) swept the diving events, thanks to a score of 234.10 on the one-meter board and 253.05 in the three-meter competition on Thursday.

The Blugolds had three wins in the swimming events. Sydney McGuine (Jr. - Huntley, Ill.) took first in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 25.43 seconds. Elaina Plonis (So. - Michigan) was the victor in the 200-yard butterfly after finishing in 2:18.43. Ella Weaver (Jr. - McFarland, Wis.) capped off the victories with a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke. She clocked in at 2:26.60.

UW-Eau Claire also had a few runner-up finishes. The 200 medley relay team of McGuine, Weaver, Zoe Rylander (Jr. - Roseville, Minn./Mounds View) and Kiara Bissen (So. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) took second place, along with the 200 freestyle relay unit of McGuine, Rylander, Grace Schnabl (Fr. - New Berlin, Wis./Brookfield Central) and Molly Sheehan (So. - Austin, Minn.). Individually, Elaine Proefrock (So. - Grafton, Wis.) was second in the 1,000 freestyle.

The Blugolds return to action Friday, Dec. 2, at the Rochester Invitational. The meet runs through Sunday, Dec. 4.
