Women’s Hockey Falls Short Against St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – Tied 1-1 after two periods, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team was outscored by one goal in the third period as the Blugolds fell to St. Olaf College 2-1 here tonight at Northfield Arena.

The Blugolds fall to 2-14-1 overall while the Oles improve to 1-10-1 on the season.  The loss snapped a three-game winning streak by the Blugolds over St. Olaf.  Eau Claire leads the all-time series 12-8-1.

Down 1-0 entering the second period, Jaedyn Walz (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 10:24 of the second period to tie the game at 1-1.  Walz lead the Blugold offense with eight shots on goal.

In the third period the Oles scored the eventual game-winning goal at 4:14 and the Blugolds were unable to tie the game as regulation expired.

Goalie Kim Van Brunt (Jr.-Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) saved 32 shots in 58:23 of action.  Her season record now stands at 0-4-0.

The Blugolds took a season-high 41 shots in the game outshooting the Oles 41-34.  18 total penalties were called between both schools as Eau Claire served 31 penalty minutes on 10 infraction while St. Olaf received 16 minutes on eight penalties.  The Oles went one-for-seven on power play opportunities while the Blugolds were 0-for-6.

Both teams will meet again tomorrow night changing venues to Hobbs Ice Center.  Face-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
