Women’s Hockey Falls Short At Superior

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team scored a season-best three goals but it was not enough as the Blugolds fell to UW-Superior 5-3 here today at Wessman Arena.

The Blugolds fall to 0-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.  The Yellowjackets, currently ranked ninth in the latest USCHO.com NCAA Division III National Poll, improve to 5-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in WIAC action.

Trailing the Yellowjackets 1-0 entering the second period Paige Dale (So.-Andover, MN) scored a power play goal at 16:11 assisted by Ashley Baugher (Jr.-Crystal Lake, IL/Central) and Sam Knutson (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN)  tying the game at 1-1.

In a wild third period that saw six goals scored between both teams, the Blugolds again came back from a deficit when Emma Silkey (So.-Chaska, MN) scored at 5:16 assisted by Katie Burkey (So.-Ramsey, MN/Anoka) tying the game at 2-2.  The Yellowjackets responded by scoring the next three goals in the next 4:15 extending their lead to 5-2.  Dale scored her second goal of the game at 19:44 assisted by Knutson but the Blugolds ran out of time to mount another rally.

Goalie Paige Turner (Jr.-Iron River, WI/Duluth East) played all 60 minutes saving 29 shots.  Her season record stands at 0-3-0.

The Blugolds return to Hobbs Ice Center tomorrow afternoon when the UW-Superior travels to Hobbs Ice Center.  Face off is set for 2:00 p.m.
